PlacePad is a specialized online drawing pad that could help many people. The application is designed to help users generate a custom floor plan. The system works by asking the user a few questions about the layout of their floor plan. PlacePad then generates most of the plan for the user. The user can go back and add other elements so the result is a floor plan tailored to the user’s purposes. The plans are neat and clean, making them ideal for sharing with others. The system keeps things simple, offering basic information such as number of bedrooms, bathrooms, how many floors need included and positioning of rooms and bathrooms. Once generated, the user can add other items such as doors, windows, related photographs and notes to their PlacePad floor plan. The process takes only a matter of minutes so users can quickly access their plan and pass it on to others.Show more screenshots »
PlacePad was created for the same reasons as many other applications: to help solve a problem experienced by the application’s creator. With PlacePad, that issue involved inadequate real estate listings. The listings were often low quality and included no floor plan. A photograph can help, but even then it is hard to really see the lay out of the building or home. PlacePad was created, with the help of designer Brian Tom with 99 Designs, to give users a way to build functional floor plans for real estate listings.
PlacePad is a simple tool that is diverse enough to work for almost anyone. If the user needs a basic floor plan, they can easily create one using PlacePad. The system is easy and users can complete their floor plans in minutes. The plans are ideal for many purposes, especially enhancing a real estate listing.
The PlacePad website welcomes users with a gentle blue color scheme highlighted by stylish graphics and images that explain the site’s purpose. The clever logo features a black pencil drawing a blue house. The floor plans themselves are very well done, keeping things simple with basic lines. The plans may be basic, but they are functional and look good enough to include when trying to sell or rent a home online.
New users can click the black “register” button at the top, right hand corner of the PlacePad homepage. The registration form requires a username, password, first and last name, email address and account level preference. Free is currently the only available level. The form includes an option to receive emails from PlacePad with “yes” automatically selected. The user must manually chose “no” to opt out of email updates. After clicking the grey “Create Account” button at the bottom of the form, the user is advised that a confirmation email will be sent and must be accessed to activate their account.
PlacePad is currently in beta with only the free account option available. There are no subscription fees or other charges and users get access to all the basic features offered by the site. A premium paid membership will be added in the future. This will include an embeddable place viewer, no advertisements, vanity URLs and a brand-able place viewer for businesses. Other features will be included but are not listed. A subscription fee is also not provided yet for the premium membership.
PlacePad is a great tool for anyone who is trying to rent or sell a property online. Users can create attractive, functional floor plans to enhance their listings. Users can also build floor plans for their own purposes or to share with others.
